Southampton teenager Calum Chambers has impressed the Gunners scouts who have been watching him play for the England U-19 and during the 21- appearances he made for the Saints at full-back last season.

According to the Sunday Mirror Arsenal is primed to pounce after being impressed with his performance in the recent Euro Championship qualifiers against Scotland and Ukraine.

The 19-year-old signed a four-year-deal last summer so will not come cheap, but it will not be anything like the £27 million that Southampton wants Manchester United to pay for Luke Shaw.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is looking at Chambers as direct competition for Carl Jenkinson, and sees the young England player as the long term replacement for Bacary Sagna who left Arsenal to sign for Manchester City on a Bosman.
