Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City

Before you get carried away I would like to point out that this is just one fans opinion, and while I am sure that there will be many out there that agree with me there will also be plenty who think this is just another pile of crap putting Arsene Wenger down.

At the moment I think more than anything Gooners are relieved that after a long nine-year wait there is finally some silverware to show off and while this is great for the fans it is perhaps not so good for Arsenal now that Wenger has signed a new contract worth £8 million per-year and Arsenal PLC is running smoothly there will be less pressure on the 64-year-old Frenchman to sign the kinds of players the club needs if they are to have any chance of trying to keep pace with Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea.

You will notice that I did not include Liverpool in this group, and the reason is simple and that is they do not have the financial fire power that the other three have and they know it.

They also know that they need to spend as much as they can this summer in order to be able to compete not only domestically but also in the Champions League and with this in mind Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is trying to get as many deals in place as soon as possible before the World Cup kicks off on June 12th.

Wenger meanwhile is taking the same old laid back approach saying how he does not expect to do any transfers until after the World Cup and that he is looking forward to going to Brazil and watch the games saying: “At the moment I have people around me who start to look [at players].”

“What is available you know always, but we are not on the market specifically at all because teams still play in many countries.

“After that, from my experience, the World Cup years have always been very quiet until the end of the World Cup, with no players reachable. Everybody is focused in the country on their national team and there’s not a lot happening. People are away.

“I believe this year again you will have to wait until July 15 to start going.”

When speaking about what he expects for Arsenal Wenger adds: “It will be busy but the main thing for us will be to keep the stability because we feel we are close,” he said. “We want to add something that makes us even stronger. But number wise it will not be massive.

“You have to be on alert. You speak about Özil but if we could have done Özil one month earlier we would have done it. But he was just available for three days.

“Why? Because the Gareth Bale story lasted for so long and they had so many clauses in his contract that they could not finish it.”

I think and again it is just my opinion and that is that Wenger was wrong to let Bacary Sagna leave for Manchester City hardly a move you think he (Wenger) would like to see happen after saying that he thought Arsenal were close to having the team they need.

My prediction is the World Cup will end and Arsenal will end up with one or two minor signings like perhaps Loic Remy from QPR and a third tier replacement for Sagna and a 30 plus-year-old back up goalkeeper for Wojciech Szczesny.

As for landing a striker like Benzema I do not see it happening especially seeing that Real Madrid wants £45 million for Di Maria, and oh yeh! Whatever happened to Alvaro Morata that I got to see play in the Champions League final, after having read that he wanted to join Arsenal.

I am sorry to say this but I think Gooners are in for a disappointing time on the transfer front, but not to worry we won the FA Cup and we proved we are willing to spend money by signing Özil.

Next season it will be the same old Wenger and the same old excuses as to why the best we can hope for is a fourth place finish.
