Per Mertesacker has laughed off the remarks made by goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny’s father saying that his performance against Stoke on Sunday proved that he is no rhinoceros.
Following his son’s dreadful display against Southampton Maciej Szczesny tried to put some of the blame on the German World Cup winner.
When asked by talkSPORT if he felt hurt by the remark the German said: “I’m always laughing.
“I know in football everyone has this opinion [that I lack agility] and it’s very strange but Wojciech [Sczczesny] and myself spoke about the situation.
“It’s not easy for Wojciech either to respond to that but we’re quite fine now and the best response is to keep yourself calm and respond with that performance today [against Stoke]. That is all you can do.”
