Draxler, Arsenal

According to this morning’s Mail on Sunday a deal to bring Schalke attacking midfielder Julian Draxler to the Emirates is almost complete.

Rod Draper from the Mail has written:  “Schalke and Arsenal are still in negotiations for the 20-year-old but the player wants to move to the club and the expectation on both sides is that a compromise will be reached this week. Arsenal do not want to go higher than £30million while Schalke want close to £35m. Ultimately Arsenal are likely to agree to a deal with additional clauses that could bring the fee up to what Schalke want.”

The signing of Draxler will be a major coup for manager Arsene Wenger as the Gunners continue to fight for silverware on three fronts this season, and after having missed out on a loan deal for Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata and failing to sigh Mirko Vucinic from Juventus Draxler will be expected to boost the Gunners attacking options.

Even though Draxler is a predominately right-sided player the general consensus is that Wenger plans to use the German youngster in a more central forward position similar to the way he did with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.
