WAYNE ROONEY has told his Manchester United team-mates: “Pile the misery on City.”
Manchester City are three points off the Premier League pace and this week went out of Europe.
United star Rooney said: “If we win it will put more pressure on them. Three points would be massive.
“Us going six points clear would be a big statement.”
Ahead of today’s derby clash, Rooney feels all is not well at the Etihad and this is a big chance for United to go there and avenge last term’s two Prem defeats to the champions.
Rooney added: “With City out of the Champions League, they are having a bit of a tough time — I think everyone can see that.
“We’re in a great position and don’t want to give it up.
“There is a big rivalry, the two of us are fighting for that No 1 spot.”
City beat United 6-1 at Old Trafford last season before a hard-fought 1-0 win at home.
They also nicked the title off big rivals United with Sergio Aguero’s injury-time winner on the last day of the season.
Striker Rooney said: “It still hurts, yeah, of course. But that’s gone now.
“We have to look forward to this season.”
