Sky Sports understands Aston Villa have had a bid accepted by Fulham for Clint Dempsey.
Dempsey’s future at Fulham has been the subject of speculation all summer with a host of clubs chasing the United States international.
The 29-year-old has been left out of the Cottagers’ first three games after informing Martin Jol he would be interested in a move away from Craven Cottage.
Liverpool and Sunderland have been strongly linked with Dempsey, but Villa have now entered the race for the versatile attacker and they have agreed a £7million fee with Fulham for the player.
The news could spark other clubs to move for Dempsey with Fulham ready to sell the player before the transfer window closes later on Friday.
