Tottenham has edged close to signing former Chelsea summer target Emmanuel Emenike, and are prepared to pay Turkish club Fenerbahce £7.8 million to have the Nigerian international move to White Hart Lane.

Spurs scouts have been watching the striker in recent weeks with his agent confirming yesterday that an offer has been made.

Erdem Konyar told the press: ‘Tottenham have really only one striker right now so it is not a surprise that they are interested.’

The figure reported is £7.8 million; half of what Chelsea were willing to pay last summer for the 27-year-old and with Fenerbahce open to selling Spurs just might have got themselves a January bargain.
