Should Arsene Wenger step aside?

After a disappointing home draw with Swansea City last night it would appear as if Arsenal’s bid to win the Premiership is now over, and could possible more of a fight for Champions League football after Everton impressively beat Newcastle United 0-3 at St James Park.

The win at Newcastle means that the Toffee’s are only six points behind fourth placed Arsenal with a game in hand and a match against the Gunners still to play at Goodison Park on April 6th.

As all Arsenal fans are aware the clubs next match is against Manchester City at the weekend, and following the thrashing at Chelsea and the lacklustre performance last night no matter how hard you try it’s hard to imagine the Gunners beating a title chasing City no matter which ground the game is played in.

Once more we are starting to hear talk of a desire to see Arsene Wenger step aside with celebrity fans like Piers Morgan saying that the 64-year-old Wenger is not the same man that led the team to success during his early years at the club and that it is time for him to move on.

It is certainly a move that is only Wenger’s decision to make as there is no way he will be forced out even if the club does not finish in the top-four this season with some Gooners saying that it could be the best thing to ever happen giving the club a kick up the backside that it so badly needs.

Assuming Wenger does decide to leave at the end of the season who would Arsenal get to replace Wenger with a list of possible big name managers not that long, and as we have seen with Manchester United change is not always good.

I hope to be able to write a glowing report on Arsenal’s match with Manchester City, but right now I just fear the worse not ready for what I hope will not be a repeat of the 6-3 result when the teams last met back in December.
