Robin van Persie struck twice in Dracula country to fire United to the top of Champions League Group H.

Boss Fergie was equally delighted to see Wayne Rooney set up both goals.

The second came from a superb pinpoint pass and Ferguson said: “It was a fantastic finish but what a nice ball from Wayne.

“I thought he hit it too far in front of Robin but his speed then to get to the ball and deftness of touch were incredible.

“Everyone thought it was going to be a miracle combination. The best thing about them is they can both turn a game. The strength of our squad is in attacking positions.”

That key strike came four minutes into the second half, as the Dutchman brilliantly nicked Rooney’s 35-yard pass into the net first-time with his left foot.

Van Persie, who now has seven goals in seven games, said: “The second one maybe was my best United goal. It felt good when it came off my boot.

“Everything starts with a good pass so I thank Wayne. Not many people can give a pass like that.”

Rooney declared: “It was a nice goal and a nice finish.”

Cluj looked the more dangerous early on in Transylvania and led after 14 minutes.

Jonny Evans failed to cut out a low Modou Sougou cross and Pantelis Kapetanos tucked the ball past David De Gea.

It was 1-1 on 29 minutes as Van Persie guided in a Rooney free-kick via his head and shoulder. Then came his destroyer.

Cluj never gave up and De Gea had to make two brilliant second-half stops.

Ferguson added: “Overall I have to be pleased.”
