When Wayne Rooney sits down with new Manchester United manager David Moyes next week it is expected that the new manager will tell Rooney to forget about any differences he may have had with former manager Sir Alex Ferguson, and to stay at the club and help them defend their Premier League title.

If what we are hearing is correct the United striker was fed up playing out of position last season following the arrival of Robin van Persie, and is hell-bent on leaving to play for a club where his talents will be realized.

Chelsea’s new manager Jose Mourinho will be certainly interested in Rooney especially if Chelsea fail in their attempt to sign Napoli’s Edinson Cavani, and there is also Arsenal that have said they have the money available for Rooney, but it is hard for me to see Arsene Wenger paying the kind of money that Rooney’s wage would demand.

A far more suitable club for the England international would be Real Madrid in a move that would involve Cristiano returning to Old Trafford.

It would certainly be the spark that Rooney is looking for to ignite his career, the question though is whether his wife and family would be ready to move to Spain.
