Both Liverpool and Manchester United have been put on alert after Porto’s Brazilian defender Danilo turned down a new deal to stay with the club.

The 23-year-old right back is also being watched by Real Madrid, but it is the Premiership duo who are leading the race as Danilo now appears ready to move to a bigger club.

Both Liverpool and Manchester United are in the market for a right-back with both Antonio Valencia and Rafael failing to please Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford, while Liverpool will be looking to replace Glen Johnson who looks set to leave Anfield during the summer.

Danilo has won 11 caps for Brazil, and was offered a one year extension on his current contract which would see him remain in Portugal until 2017, along with an added £40 million buy-out-clause.
