It has been revealed that Cologne, and German International striker Lukas Podolski turned down £40 million from Russia.

Podolski snubbed mega cash from Russian side to play for Arsenal

Top cash rich Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala offered to pay £40 million plus £200,000 a-week to have the German come, and play for them over Arsenal.

Podolski preferring football over money decided to join his fellow German team mate Per Mertesacker in North London for £10.9 million over four years, and a salary of £100,000 a-week.

Lukas had been texting Per over the past couple of weeks asking about life at Arsenal, and what it was like to live in London.

The 26-year-old was quoted saying: ‘Money is not the most important thing for me. What is crucial is the development of my game.’

When asked about how Podolski would fit in at Arsenal, and play in the Premiership German team coach Joachim Low said: ‘Four or five years ago I would have told Lukas that it was better for him to stay in Germany. Today the situation is different. Lukas has become more mature, he can take the step abroad now more easily.’

All the Arsenal fans are looking forward to Podolski’s arrival, and hope he is the first of more to come to the Emirates this summer.
