Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs is close to finishing his coaching qualifications.

Having signed a new one-year contract extension for next season, the ageing midfielder is expected to play a bit-part role in the first-team as he approaches his 40th birthday.

United stalwart Giggs therefore sees undertaking a position behind the scenes as a natural progression and he is close to being ready for what lies ahead.

“I’m close to finishing the necessary qualifications now,” Giggs told the Daily Mirror.

“I’ve done that while I’m playing, which at times can be tough, doing homework and going on courses, or doing coaching sessions after training.”

Yet Giggs, who helped clinch his and United’s 13th Premier League title this season, is undecided as to when he will become a coach full-time, and will just wait and see.

“Whether I’ll do it straight away or take a bit of time off when I finish, I don’t know,” he added.
