Manchester United winger finds van Gaal difficult to play under

Manchester United’s Belgium international winger Adnan Januzaj has admitted that the system manager Louis van Gaal is trying to implement at Old Trafford is making it difficult for him to play.

The 19-year-old has been struggling for playing time under van Gaal, with the Dutchman using him in a variety of positions including as a wing-back in a 3-5-2 formation.

Last season former manager David Moyes used Januzaj as a winger or striker in which the youngster excelled.

And while sitting on the bench most of this season has been difficult, it is having to play out of position that is bothering him the most telling Sky Sports: “Yes, the system can make it more difficult for me to play there but I have to keep working.”

“That is what I am doing in training every day, as I want to get more games this season.

“I’m not really a wing-back. It’s harder for me because there is more defending involved and I’m not really a defender.”

Despite not being able to play where he likes, he now realizes he must take his opportunities where the boss wants him to play.

“It depends on how my football evolves,” Januzaj added.

“My favourite position is as a No 10 or a winger.

“There are lots of players here and I can play in different roles – it’s just a case of taking my opportunities.”
