Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is tipping his side to win the FA Cup following their 3-0 win over Cambridge United last night at Old Trafford thanks to goals from Juan Mata, Marcos Rojo and James Wilson.

United is the highest remaining club in the competition and will play League One Preston North End in the fifth round which van Gaal believes makes them the favourites to lift the Cup.

When speaking to the BBC after the match van said:”I am not a casino man.”

“I am not allowed to bet. But I give you a tip. We have a real chance now.”

The last time United won the Cup was in 2004 and with Darren Fletchers departure to West Brom on deadline day it means that no member of the current United team has ever won the competition while playing for the Red Devils.

“We are the highest qualified team in the FA Cup so our status is the highest club,” added Van Gaal.

“But Arsenal is still in the cup and also a very high competitor. Liverpool is also there and will fight (against Bolton) tomorrow.”

The unexpected loss of Manchester City and Chelsea from the competition now gives the Dutchman a chance to win his fourth domestic Cup after having already won three other Cups with Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Playing Preston presents the opportunity for another massive upset, but van Gaal is delighted to be up against a team from a lower position in the next round.

“I prefer to play against lower teams because the possibility to survive is higher,” he said.

“The FA Cup is a title and I am living for titles.

“It is not as important for the coach as the club, the fans and the players. That is the sequence.

“But I won a title in my first year everywhere where I worked.”

The Dutchman confirmed that he substituted Robin van Persie to save him for this weekend’s match with West Ham United.
