Manchester United, Arsenal, Morata,

Reports coming out of Spain are suggesting that Manchester United is to battle Arsenal for the signature of Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata according to the Daily Star.

Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague revealed last month that the 21-year-old had been told that he was free to leave the club in the summer after only making 13 appearances for Los Blancos this season 12 of which have come from the bench.

Real Madrid would have preferred to have held onto Morata but with his contract expiring in 2015 and interest from big European clubs that also include Juventus and Tottenham they realize that it would be difficult to hold onto him while only being able to offer limited playing time.

Last month it was assumed that Arsenal had already done a deal with the Spanish giants for Morata who has come up through the Madrid ranks spending most of his time playing for Castilla which is Real Madrid’s equivalent to Barcelona B.

Manchester United interest also points to the departure of Javier Hernández at Old Trafford where the Mexican international also does not get the playing time he wants under David Moyes.

The sudden interest in Morata from United will now push up Morata’s price which is something Wenger was trying to avoid by getting a deal done early.
