Manchester United to enter race for Arsenal target

Spanish newspaper and Real Madrid mouthpiece MARCA is claiming that Manchester United will now challenge Arsenal in their pursuit of Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata

Morata was the top goalscorer in last summer’s European U-21 Championships in Israel with four goals, yet has struggled to find playing time at Real Madrid leading to talk that he will be looking to move clubs during the summer.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger tried to sign the 21-year-old striker on a season long loan in January but failed to agree terms with Real Madrid leading to speculation that along with Schalke’s Julian Draxler he will be Wenger’s top transfer target this summer.

MARCA however is saying that Manchester United’s David Moyes is also keen on the youngster and is preparing to battle Arsenal for his signature.

One sticking point that both clubs may come up against is that Real Madrid almost always likes to include a buyback clause into the contract of any of their young players that they sell, which is something that would not sit well with either Arsenal or United.

The asking price could also be a turn off with Florentino Perez keen to get at least 30 million euros despite the fact he is second choice to Jesé Rodríguez in Carlo Ancelotti’s team.

Morata certainly will not want to stay with Madrid if he does not get to play which means a summer move if defiantly on the cards.
