Manchester United officials have flown to Italy in order to hold talks with Arsenal target Kostas Manolas according to a report this afternoon by Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio ( as reported by daily star). The high rated Italian who is 95% of the time spot on with his transfer news claims although Chelsea and Arsenal are also interested in the 24-year-old Italian, it is United who have made the first move to sign him.

Chelsea under Jose Mourinho were keenly linked to the signing of the Greece international defender and with United now said to be close to sign him, it could be an indication that Jose Mourinho has started work behind the scene ahead of his official move to Manchester United. If he was interested in signing Manolas while he was at Chelsea and now United are been linked to the player, it could well be that Jose Mourinho is behind the sudden interest from Manchester United.

Louis Van Gaal’s future is yet to be decided with rumours claiming he will be sacked once the season is over and be replaced with Jose Mourinho. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Chelsea have not given up on their attempt to sign Manolas as Conte is also a big fan of the defender. But from all indication, the real battle for the signing of the AS Roma defender is between Arsenal and Manchester United.

With United making the first move, they have given themselves a real chance of beating Arsenal to his signing. However, Manolas coould choose Arsenal ahead of Manchester United due to the opportunity of playing in the Champions league next season.
