It would appear almost a certainty now that Manchester United target Memphis Depay will leave PSV Eindhoven this summer after one of the clubs directors Marcel Brands admitted there is a strong chance that he will not be at the Philips Stadion next season.

Depay has caught the attention of not only Manchester United whose manager Louis van Gaal knows the 21-year-old from his time as the Holland national team coach but also some of Europe’s top clubs after and impressive season in the Eredivisie where he has scored 19 goals in 25 games.

Brands, speaking to ANP, said: ‘The chances are very high that he leaves. If you see what clubs are enquiring about him, they really are the best in Europe.

‘When I talk for PSV I would say he is not ready and should continue here for another year. But I am realistic and if I worked at a big European club, I’d buy him without question.

‘With a heavy heart [we would let him go], because a great player and a great guy leaves. But we are also proud that a boy from the academy is going to make such a step.’

While Manchester United may be the favourites to sign the winger both Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain has also expressed in interest in him.
