According to reports in this morning’s Daily Express newspaper Manchester United has made a jaw dropping bid of £55 million for Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria.

The report suggests that the Argentinian international is ready to leave the Champions League winners after trainer Carlo Ancelotti signed Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez following the World Cup.

Another club mentioned as a possible destination was Paris Saint Germain, but club president Nasser Al Khelaifi has now quashed that rumour saying: “We discussed Angel Di Maria with Real Madrid. He was very expensive and we have stopped discussions.”

The French Champions will still be in the market however as they look to sell Ezequiel Lavezzi to Liverpool in a deal that could be worth as much as £18 million.

It is United though who are in the driver’s seat for Di Maria with new manager Louis van Gaal also hopeful of signing Fiorentina’s Juan Cuadrado and Juventus’ Arturo Vidal.
