Both Manchester United and Chelsea could offer former Tottenham playmaker Luca Modric a ticket back to the Premier League after reports that his wife Vanja is unhappy in Madrid and would like to return to England.

According to Francois Gallardo, described as a FIFA agent, “Modric is the engine of Real Madrid, but the problem it is his wife who did not fit into Madrid in Spain.”

United are known to be in the market for a midfield player capable of holding the ball while protecting the back-four, and after numerous efforts to sigh Kevin Stootman and Arturo Vidal have failed LVG may turn his attention to the former Spurs player.

Chelsea meanwhile tried to sign Modric last summer, but it now looks like Cesc Fabregas has taken the role that Modric might have played leaving the 29-year-old to ponder his future after having cemented himself well into Carlo Ancelotti’s team where only a hamstring injury has kept him on the side-lines this season.
