After one of the most exciting Carling Cup finals Liverpool come out winners over a brave Cardiff City.

Liverpool win Carling cup in penalty shootout

With their never say Die attitude Cardiff City equalized in the last few minutes of extra time from an in-swinging corner to force penalties.

It had looked like the game was over when Dirk Kuyt came on as a substitute for Liverpool, and after running at the defence with his fresh legs unleashed a shot that rebounded back to him allowing for a split second reaction to put the ball in the back of the net on his second attempt.

Cardiff City however never gave up forcing the match to penalties.

Liverpool Captain Steven Gerrard won the toss, and opted to go first, with him to take the first Penalty, which he missed after a brilliant save by Heaton.
