Liverpool has long been linked with Barcelona right-back Martin Montoya, but now that it looks as if they have got Southampton’s England international on board, Rodgers has the option of going for a cheaper back-up in the form of 23-year-old Atalanta defender Davide Zappacosta.
With Brazilian defender Dani Alves having signed a new deal at the Nou Camp it has made Montoya’s decision to leave the Catalan giants even more important as he seeks to join a team that will allow him to play first-team football.
“We’re talking with Inter about Montoya,” the Spaniard’s agent, Juan De Dios Carrasco told Calciomercato.
“We hope the deal will have a positive ending, we’re working on it. Montoya thinks Inter is a great club, and a great opportunity.”
