Liverpool is about to make Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva available in order to gather up funds for manager Brendan Rodgers summer spending spree.

Lucas spent most of last season out injured and with Rodgers preferring to use Joe Allen as a holding midfielder the club would rather sell Lucas now while they can still get some money for him.

The 28-year-old has made 275 appearances for the Reds since joining from Gremio in 2007, and will now be sacrificed along with strikers Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini to make room for new talent.
