“The money is there – and we will look to improve at the top end of the field until the very end of the window” says Kop boss Brendan Rodgers.

The Liverpool manager has promised to pursue a world-class striker right up to midnight on the final day of the transfer window.

Strikers Rodgers would like to see at Anfield are Colombian Radamel Falcao, or Uruguayan Edinson Cavani after having sold the clubs leading goalscorer Luis Suarez to Barcelona but admits it might prove difficult to attract a top talent telling the Daily Mirror: “The money is there – and we will look to improve at the top end of the field until the very end of the window.

“It’s not easy to get a top level striker, no. But we have to keep looking. We certainly need something, because we haven’t brought in another striker so far, apart from Rickie Lambert.

“You just never know what will happen in that last week – the window will always throw up something. We will persevere, and the boys are working hard behind the scenes to see what information we can get on the availability of players.”

Despite being initially knocked back by Monaco striker Falcao who said he would only leave to play for Real Madrid, Rodgers has not given up hope as he knows the Columbian is desperate to leave France.

The Liverpool boss is willing to offer Falcao a year-long loan deal which would also allow the Colombian striker future options.

Another alternative is PSG striker Edinson Cavani who the club could quite possibly sign for just over £50 million.

Time will tell, but either of these two options would prove to be better than a last minute signing of Samuel Eto’o.
