Liverpool will need to put their skates on if they are serious about signing Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic after reports coming out of Italy suggest Real Madrid have approached Inter Milan over their star player.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has been linked with the 20-year, but then so has Real Madrid trainer Carlo Ancelotti who considers Kovacic to be one of the best European prospects and has gone as far as having representatives of the club meet with the youngsters advisors.

Currently Kovacic is on international duty playing for Croatia in the World Cup, and with Inter said to be looking at getting at least £20 million for their star player Liverpool being able to sign him could depend on whether a deal to sign Southampton’s Adam Lallana falls apart or not.
