The British daily tabloid the Sun newspaper is claiming today that Liverpool football club owners the Fenway Sports Group have become disillusioned with the club and are looking to sell.

The club was purchased from George Gillette and Tom Hicks back in October of 2010 for £300 million with the Sun now saying that they will sell for around £350 million.

Apparently investors have become disillusioned after having put £187 million into the club and yet Liverpool only managed a 7th place finish nowhere near where they need to be in order to get the lucrative payout that comes along with Champions League football.

Apparently Saudi oil giant Aramco is interested in buying the club, as well as two unnamed American billionaires.

“Fenway Sports Group has made its position clear, Liverpool Football Club is not for sale. There is no truth in this story,” said a club spokesman.

“Like so many rumours in the past about a sale of Liverpool Football Club, there is absolutely no truth in this.

“We have had no meetings with anyone about a sale, we don’t know who the source of the rumour is.”
