This summer’s transfer window will go a long way in proving whether or not Liverpool is still a club that can compete with the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea or if they are to continue much like Tottenham has done on the periphery of Champions League qualification each season.

With no Champions League money to go into the kitty for summer transfers the Reds owners in Boston must ante up with the money to allow manager Brendan Rodgers to not just replace the players that will be leaving Anfield, but to replace them with people that would be immediate starter in Rodgers first XI.

Last summer the club lost its best player in Luis Suarez, and instead of signing a top class player to replace him brought in a host of players in the hope that some would be good enough to play week-in-and-week out.

Of these players only Emre can and Alberto Moreno proved to be capable while Adam Lallana, Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren have all struggled for playing time.

If reports coming out of Italy are true, Liverpool may be going along the path we have suggested with the club being linked with AS Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan and also Atletico Madrid striker Mario Mandzukic after reports suggested he had fallen out with Coach Diego Simeone.

Both of these players would show the Reds determination to compete and would be immediate starters in Rodgers team.
