Liverpool has upped their interest in Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi as it appears likely that he will leave the Spanish giants in the summer after having failed to get into trainer Carlo Ancelotti’s team.

Despite injury to Luka Modric Illarramendi could still not get selected with the Italian choosing Brazilian Lucas Silva over him.

Just today Spanish newspaper El Confidencial report that Liverpool is closely monitoring the 24-year-olds situation at the club and will challenge both Athletic Bilbao and his former club Real Sociedad for his signature.

Liverpool’s chances of signing him will depend on whether or not they will be playing Champions League football next season as they push for a top-four finish and success in the Europa League.

The Spanish newspaper also suggests that the Reds will use former player Xabi Alonso to urge Illarramendi to move to Anfield where he would be a perfect addition to the team manager Brendan Rodgers is building given his young age and talent.

Have a look at him in the video below and tell us if you think he would be a good buy for the Merseysiders.
