Liverpool tried to sign Arsenal target Asier Illarramendi last month, but Real Madrid’s new manager Rafa Benitez put the brakes on any move until he had the chance to reassess the defensive midfielder for himself during pre-season training.

Liverpool has apparently made a £10 million offer for the 25-year-old, and is now ready to submit a new offer of £13.8 in order to get the wheels rolling on a switch to Anfield according to reports in Spain.

With no starting place for Illarramendi in the current Real Madrid first team it makes no sense for Benitez not to sanction the sale and especially now the Reds have upped their offer so we can expect to hear now about this sale over the coming days, and with Arsenal also interested it will be interesting to see who comes out on top in this deal.
