Rumours coming out of Montevideo today suggest that Liverpool is making a move to try and sign Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani from Paris Saint Germain.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is said to be a huge fan of the forward, which was confirmed by his agent who said he was approached by Liverpool earlier in the summer, when the Reds knew they would be losing Luis Suarez to Barcelona.

The PSG striker would be a bold move for Liverpool, who knows that it would involve paying a huge salary yet the Merseyside outfit do not seem to be put off by the prospect as they prepare to challenge for the Premiership title.

Uruguay newspaper El Telegrafo is reporting that there are offers on the table from both Liverpool and Arsenal with Cavani’s agent quoted as saying: “There was much interest in the player during the past six months. I can confirm that Cavani has heard proposals from Liverpool and Arsenal,” he said.

“He would love to play in England, but has not yet made a final decision. He is not interested in money and fame; he just wants to be happy playing football.”

While Cavani is said to be happy in Paris, PSG would let him leave if the price was right, and should Chelsea or Manchester United become interested it would certainly sky rocket.

The Liverpool boss will be encouraged by the news from the Cavani camp, and especially the fact that Cavani would rather play for a club that fits his style of play rather than a club who offers the most money.
