FRANK LAMPARD is hoping Chelsea will now secure captain John Terry’s future.

The Blues’ record goalscorer is thrilled to have put pen to paper on a one-year extension to his own contract.

And now he is backing Terry, who has only one year left on his Stamford Bridge deal, in his bid to stay.

Lampard said: “I know JT will want to stay, he’s said he’d love to stay at Chelsea.

“He feels the same as me. Why play anywhere else when you love the club you’re at?

“JT’s captain of the club and does a brilliant job.”

Terry suffered two bad injuries last season but Lamps is convinced the defender, 32, will be back to his brilliant best next term to earn a new deal.

He said: “At the start of next season I think that’s when the club will take a view on it. I know what my view would be.”

Midfielder Lampard also defended his pal against the criticism of him joining in celebrations at the Champions League and Europa League finals even though he did not play.

He argued: “John must have been here 14-15 years, right from the youth team.

“The fact he couldn’t be involved in two big finals was hard to take. He deserves to be involved when we win things, simple as that.”
