VINCENT KOMPANY has had the red card he received against Arsenal rescinded after Manchester City won their appeal.

The Belgian centre-back was sent off by referee Mike Dean for a challenge on Jack Wilshere towards the end of City’s 2-0 win at the Emirates.

But the FA have upheld the Premier League champions’ claim for wrongful dismissal following a disciplinary hearing.

And the City skipper has avoided a three-match ban which would have ruled him out of the league games against Fulham and QPR and an FA Cup fourth-round tie against Stoke or Crystal Palace.

Kompany had defended his tackle straight after the game on Twitter.

He wrote: “No grudges against the referee, I understand the difficulty of the job.

“About the tackle: If the ball is overrun by the opponent and a 50/50 challenge occurs, collision is inevitable.

“Ultimately I’m a defender: Appeal may work or not. I will never pull out of a challenge, as much as I will never intend to injury a player.”
