Argentina have called up injured Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero for their World Cup qualifiers against Paraguay and Peru next month.
Aguero sustained a knee injury early in City’s opening Premier League match against Southampton on Sunday and was earmarked for a comeback at Stoke on September 15th.
But Argentina manager Alejandro Sabella has called up the 24-year-old to play at home against Paraguay on September 7th before travelling to face Peru on September 11th.
The other surprise decision in Sabella’s squad is a first call-up for 28-year-old Palmeiras striker Hernan Barcos.
Barcos said: “This is a prize after so much effort. It’s a proud moment for me to train and compete with great players that I admire.”
Aguero’s City team-mate Pablo Zabaleta and Newcastle’s Fabricio Coloccini are also included but once again there is no place for Carlos Tevez.
