Saturdays match against Newcastle United in which the Blues won 2-0 was back up goalkeeper Petr Cech’s second start for the club with number one Thibaut Courtois out with a thumb injury.

Cech was at his best especially in the first half while Newcastle were on the offensive and managed to see out the game with a clean sheet.

When talking with Chelsea TV after the match the 32-year-old said:

“You need to use your focus and concentrate on every situation. You need to keep working whether you’re playing or not playing.

“I feel fit, I’m ready. Every time the manager points at me to say I can have a go I will try to make the most of it.

“We have a squad where everyone is very competitive and you can use everyone, which is great for the manager.”

Cech went on to say that Chelsea should not look at Manchester City but only concentrate on winning their games.

“I never follow anyone else’s results. Our results are important, not the other ones. I only knew that Man City had drawn against Everton after someone told me just before I left the dressing room after the match.”
