French international striker Olivier Giroud has pledged his loyalty to the Gunners after signing a new contract that will keep him at the Emirates until 2018.

This is a major achievement for the 27-year old striker and will give him confidence moving forward knowing that he will not have to deal with contract issues for at least the next two years.

Currently Giroud is side-lined recovering from surgery on his left tibia following an injury he picked up at Everton last month, and is expected to be out until at least the New Year despite already being off of the crutches and wearing a protective boot as he looks to make a speedy recovery to the team.

Olivier’s new deal with the club is thought to be worth £80,000 per-week is a reward for the two seasons hard work he has shown for the club and is seen as a testament of manager Arsene Wenger’s long-term plans of with Giroud now appears to be a big part of.

Despite the signing of former Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck on deadline day Wenger’s new contract for Giroud is likely to be seen as a public display by the fans of his faith in the French striker and can be looked upon as a reward for the centre forward.

Meanwhile the Gunners have also been trying to tie down other players to new contracts after having already gotten Laurent Koscielny, Per Mertesacker, Santi Cazorla and Tomas Rosicky to sign new contracts at the end of last season.
