German international defender Matts Hummels is being strongly linked with a move to Manchester United with sources close to his national team compatriots suggesting a move is very close.

The Borussia Dortmund centre-back is believed to have told his teammates during the international break that a move to Old Trafford was on the verge of happening with a source saying: “He is preparing his exit and he gave some of the player’s signs that his transfer is close.”

Hummels is likely to cost United around £35 million, which manager Louis van Gaal feels is a small price to pay for one of the worlds most experienced defenders who is still only 26-years-of-age.

Hummels talked about his future this week in what appears to be a message preparing the Dortmund fans for his departure.

“I think moving abroad will be good for my professional and personal well-being. Eventually, I’d like to leave the Bundesliga.

“I’m being open about this because I’m not a fan of those who claim they are staying but, behind the scenes, have actually secretly agreed a transfer away from their current club.

“Everyone knows how much I love it at Dortmund, but I also want to make sure I’m part of a strong team with powerful players.”
