According to reports coming out of France broadcast by talkSPORT the Gunners first summer signing will be Newcastle United right-back Mathieu Debuchy.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been a long-time admirer of Debuchy and sees him as the ideal replacement for the Manchester City bound Bacary Sagna.

Arsenal had been scouting Ivory Coast international Serge Aurier, but it appears as if the Toulouse man may now be on his way to French champions Paris Saint-German forcing Arsenal to fully focus on the Newcastle defender.

Debuchy is currently on World Cup duty with France in Brazil after having spent a year and a half in the Northeast since joining from Lille for £5.5 million.

The 28-year-old will be the first of many signings for the Gunner with a world –class striker thought to be topping Wenger’s shopping list.
