Manchester United might have been given a boost in the race to sign a new centre back this summer. According to quotes attributed to AS Roma’s Kostas Manolas, the player would accept a transfer to Manchester United this summer should the need arise. The Greece international centre back has always been linked to a move to Manchester United even before he went to Roma.

He is said to be a key target for incoming Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho. He has been impressive for Roma ever since the Italian beat Arsenal to his signing in 2014. The former Olympiacos has played in all of AS Roma’s 32 games in the serie A so far this season. Manolas’ performance in the centre of defence alongside Rudiger has ensured Roma have climbed to third position on the Serie A table to continue to put pressure on Juventus and Napoli who are first and and second on table respectively.

“Manchester United? I know nothing, my agent tells me nothing,” Manolas said in an interview with Sky Sport Italia ( via dailymail )

“I have to be focused on Roma, I still have three years of my contract left to run.

“At the end of the season we will sit down and talk with Roma.”

This is an indication that he could leave Roma this summer which is good for Manchester United. With the Red devils having only Chris Smalling as the only reliable centre back, bringing in Manolas will ensure no silly goals are conceded next season.
