Sky Sports understands Everton have made an enquiry for Dundee United’s highly-rated forward Johnny Russell.

Everton keen on Russell

Everton have enjoyed an impressive start to the new Premier League season following wins over Manchester United and Aston Villa, and David Moyes may look to build on that promise by strengthening his squad before the transfer window closes.

Moyes has already made one successful raid on Scottish football this summer after bringing in Steven Naismith from Rangers.

The Everton boss could now try to add Russell to his squad after showing an interest in the 22-year-old, who was called into the Scotland squad for the end-of-season friendly against the USA in May.

Russell has caught the eye at Tannadice over the past couple of seasons and scored twice in United’s 3-0 derby win over Dundee, before being sent off, earlier this month.

Terrors manager Peter Houston has previously stated that the club are under no pressure to sell any key players, including Russell, but may find his resolve tested in the lead-up to Friday’s deadline.nbsp;

In addition to signing Naismith, Moyes has also brought Steven Pienaar back to Goodison Park on a permanent basis and snapped up Belgium international Kevin Mirallas from Olympiakos.
