Chelsea striker Diego Costa has lost his appeal after having been charged with violent conduct for stamping on Liverpool’s Emre Can during Tuesday night’s Capital One Cup semi-final second-leg and will now miss this weekend’s top of the table clash with second place Manchester City along with the clubs next two matches against Aston Villa and Everton as he serves a three-match ban.

Chelsea backed their player to the full in the fast-tracked hearing which was pushed forward so that a decision could be made ahead of the match with City, but it made no difference after the FA up held the verdict.
