Arsene Wengers new eye opening contract revealed

With it being taken for granted that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will sign a new contract with the Gunners at the end of the season it is all up in the air now following comments the 64-year-old Frenchman made yesterday when he said he had “given his word” to the board that he is staying after his contract expires at the end of the season.

When prompted if that meant he would definitely be in charge next season Wenger said: “Yes….unless I decide otherwise.

These type of comments have the Arsenal board worried with a club insider telling the Sunday Mirror that the situation with regard to Wenger’s contract is ‘far from cut and dried’ and is not just a matter of timing.

Arsenal directors have witnessed what has happened since David Moyes took over from Sir Alex Ferguson with the Red Devils looking as though they will not even qualify for Champions League football next season just one year after winning the Premiership.

Contingency plans are being put in place that will see Diego Simeone, Jürgen Klopp and Roberto Martinez as possible candidates should Wenger decide to end his 18-year rule as manager at the club.

The 6-0 away loss to Chelsea is thought to have hit Wenger hard with him now wanting to decide if he thinks he is the right man to take the club forward.
