In recent years, Iker Casillas has dropped from the level of performance he was known for.

It was Jose Mourinho who took an opportunity of a wrist injury to sign Diego Lopez as Real Madrid manager after making complains about Casillas’ performances.

Lopez turned out to be the first choice goalkeeper for one and a half years with Iker playing only the cup matches even after Mourinho’s exit.

Making glaring mistakes for Real Madrid last season summed up his lack of consistency and he didn’t do any better at the 2014 FIFA world cup for Spain.

Although, he has been reinstated to Real Madrid’s first eleven after the departure of Diego Lopez to AC Milan, the latest blunder against Slovakia is making fans react angrily to the 33 year old shot stopper.

Having won a lot of titles, the Spanish skipper has the required experience to come through any kind of pressure and mistakes as it were but it’s definitely becoming the order of the day for Casillas.

His error in the UEFA Champions League final almost cost Real Madrid the title but he will be grateful to Spanish colleague Sergio Ramos that helped him out with a late equaliser.

There were series of mistakes at the world cup with him gifting Robin Van Persie a goal in his side’s opening match.

It’s one too many for Casillas and the recent misjudging against Slovakia that gave the host the lead in Spain’s 2-1 loss clearly shows Vicente Del Bosque should try something new.

Victor Valdes and Pepe Reina couldn’t dislodge him of his place in the national team and former Real Madrid goalkeeper, Diego Lopez didn’t even make the national team squad talk less of replacing the team’s captain.

With this, it’s difficult to accept Spanish coach Del Bosque will opt for David De Gea soon as his number one goalkeeper.

The Coach revealed Spain should be proud of him and not castigate him but how long will Del Bosque put his job on the line for Iker Casillas?

David De Gea has been impressive for Manchester United after he struggled in the first two years of arrival in the English Premier League.

His recent heroics against Everton confirmed he is one of the best Premier League shot stopper.

With the lad still 23, he has a long way to go and grow.

He can’t match up with Casillas in terms of experience but he will need enough exposure to get the experience and if that’s anything to go by, De Gea should be involved gradually in the team.

Iker Casillas is getting close to the end of his career and De Gea seems to be the future of the team, so it doesn’t make much sense featuring the past at the expense of the future and fans calling for a change are right to do so.

However, the manager has his decision to make which may be in favour of the captain, Casillas but it won’t take long before De Gea stamp his authority if he continues with his recent level of performances.
