The Reds boss claims there is no danger of Liverpool just turning up to play and see out the rest of the Premier League season ahead of today’s match with Wigan.

Dalglish says Liverpool will be playing for their pride in every match

After last Wednesdays embarrassing loss to QPR despite having been 2-0 up, where the game ended 3-2 in favour of the London side.

This loss pretty much ended any hope Liverpool might have had for getting into the Champions League next season.

Liverpool has however guaranteed themselves a spot in Europe by winning the Carling Cup which puts them in the Europa League.

Dalglish when talking about his side’s motivation said: “Nothing is going to peter out here,” “It’s not just financial, a wee bit of pride comes into it as well.

“We’ll play for our pride and play with the same premise we had at the start of the season – to try to win every game we compete in.

“Look at the performances the players have turned in against Stoke and at QPR – the performance, not the result.
“Their attitude and approach to the start of the game speaks volumes for them.”

Wigan arrives today at Anfield facing almost certain relegation having won only one of their last 14 games in the Premiership.

“It is difficult to take when you play as well as they did the other night but they have to get over it,” Dalglish said.

“They’ll take confidence from the 77 minutes they were magnificent. We won’t be easing the last 13 minutes from our memory but we will work hard to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

“We have to brush ourselves down, not feel sorry for ourselves and just get on with it.

“Hopefully we will put away a lot of the chances we get against Wigan.”
