Arsenal have firmed up their interest in reported summer target Granit Xhaka by making an official bid for the Swiss international midfielder. According to reports, Arsenal have made an opening bid of £24 million for the player and are confident they can get a deal worked out before the start of the European Championship in June. This is despite the fact that Xhaka’s club Borussia Monchengladbach reportedly holding out for £32 million.

Arsenal are obviously moving early as if the player has a good tournament in France, many clubs who are likely to outbid Arsenal will be interested in him. Knowing Wenger, he will not like a bidding war and the best way of winning the signature of the player is to ensure a deal is done now.

German media outlet Bild had reported two weeks ago that Arsene Wenger had met with the player’s agent. Although BILD are quite reliable when ti comes to news on German players or players playing the German league, many had treated the news as a news placed in the media by Arsenal in order to encourage the fans to renew their season ticket but Skysports and the BBC have all gone on to confirm the news is true.

Skysports and BBC are known for not reporting nonsense hence Arsenal fans can hope to see the Manchester City target playing for their club next season.
