Chelsea target joins Zenit St. Petersburg for £32 Million

Brazil forward Hulk, who was linked with Chelsea earlier this summer, has joined Zenit St Petersburg from Porto in a transfer deal reportedly worth 40 million euros (£32m).

The 26-year-old has signed a five-year deal with the Russian champions.

Zenit have also completed the signing, again on a five-year contract and for a similar transfer fee, of midfielder Axel Witsel, 23, from Benfica.
Hulking resemblance

Hulk, less frequently known as Givanildo Vieira de Souza, was given his nickname because of his resemblance to the actor who played the Incredible Hulk, Lou Ferrigno

Witsel, capped 30 times by Belgium, began his career at Standard Liege.

Hulk, who has scored five goals for Brazil in 14 appearances and appeared for his country during this summer’s Olympic football tournament, is Zenit’s first major signing in the summer transfer window, which remains open in Russia for another week.

In four years with Porto, Hulk, who can play out wide or in a more central role, won the Portuguese league title three times and the Europa League in 2011.

Zenit, backed by Russian energy giant Gazprom, will hope Hulk can at least see them through Group C of the Champions League, where they will line up against AC Milan, Anderlecht and Malaga, to the knock-out phase.
