Chelsea is set to reignite their interest in Everton defender John Stones as soon as the transfer window opens next month as manager Jose Mourinho hopes to rescue the Blues season.

The Blues failed with four bids to sign the centre-back during the summer, but still believe that they can prise the 21-year-old away from Everton’s clutches.

The Daily Express is claiming the Mourinho has the full backing of club owner Roman Abramovich, who believes that the signing of Stones will go a long way in helping the team dig their way out of the current hole they find themselves in.

Mourinho is also hoping that with a new bid it could force Stones to also put pressure on Everton Chairman Bill Kenwright to allow him to leave the club.

Manchester United is also said to be interested in the England international, so will have to move fast if they want to convince Stones to move to Old Trafford rather than Stamford Bridge following all the wooing Mourinho did over the summer to convince the former Barnsley player to move South.
