Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was furious last night over claims that Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic should have been sent off.

Already exactly not on good terms with the press after his self-imposed silence last week, the Chelsea boss stormed out of his post-match press conference after being asked about an incident in last night’s match involving Everton’s James McCarthy and Branislav Ivanovic.

The Stamford Bridge boss stormed out of his press conference after being asked about the flashpoint involving Ivanovic and Everton’s James McCarthy.

Brazilian star Willian scored for Chelsea in the 89th minute to keep Chelsea seven points clear of Manchester City will just 13 games remaining in the season.

Just leading up to the goal Everton’s Gareth Barry got his marching orders after picking up a second yellow card for a foul on Eden Hazard which had Ivanovic shove his head into the face of Everton’s James McCarthy.

“Did Branislav Ivanovic go in with his head?” said Mourinho. “Don’t make me laugh. Don’t make me laugh.

“I am tired of stories and I am never tired of football and football is emotion and what we have here today.

“And (this is) a discussion about a red card and a red card which should be given in the first half because he (Barry) had a yellow card and he pulls back Hazard when he goes to attack the last defender.

“The next question about this and I will go – and I don’t think you will like this.”

Jonathan Moss the referee for the match took no action against Ivanovic, although he did book McCarthy, which could lead the FA to review the incident.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez was of the opinion that the Chelsea player should have been sent off.

“If you look at the image he grabs McCarthy around the neck in a forceful manner and then puts his head against him when James does not react.

“If you want to apply the law that is a red card. You also do not want to see their left-back (Cesar Azpilicueta) running 25 yards to try and have his say to the referee.”

Mourinho: “It’s beautiful to win in the last minute, and it’s so sad to lose.

“They have to be very disappointed, they gave us a very difficult match.

“We are very very happy and we think we deserve it. We fought so hard to try and win the game.

“We risked a lot to try to win. It was a refereeing performance that in my opinion was very good.

“We had a goal which was fantastically well disallowed by the assistant referee. A great decision.

“Everton changed its DNA, they defend really well and made lots of fouls. What we can call intelligent fouls.

“But if the referee follows the rules it’s yellow card, yellow card and they paid the price for that. This is not a criticism, but they foul, foul, foul.”
