The Premier League plans on writing to Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho to ask him why he did not talk to the media either before or after the clubs 1-1 draw with Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

The vow of silence apparently stems from Diego Costa’s three match ban for violent conduct after the Chelsea striker appeared to stamp on Liverpool’s Emre Can during their 1-0 Capital Cup semi-final victory.

Mourinho was particularly mad at former Liverpool player and now Sky Sports football pundit Jamie Carragher when he said that Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini should take a DVD of the incident to the FA the next morning to ensure that Costa did not play against his side at the weekend.

The Portuguese manager refused to do an interview the day before the game, and then again on the day which is contrary to section K of the Premiership rules.

Sir Alex Ferguson regularly snubbed the media and even banned the BBC for seven years after they made allegations against his son in a 2004 documentary.

The new rules came into existence once the former Manchester United boss retired with Mourinho now looking as though he will be the first manager punished under the new rules.

Once the Chelsea boss responds to the Premierships letter the matter will be discussed by the Premiership board with the most likely outcome a fine.
