CHELSEA are keeping a close eye on the growing row between Sergio Ramos and Real Madrid, as they prepare a January bid for the defender.

CHELSEA TO BATTLE FOR UNHAPPY REAL MADRID ACE SERGIO RAMOS

The Spain international has fallen out with the La Liga giants after boss Jose Mourinho dropped him for their Champions League clash against Manchester City on Tuesday.

And – if the pair are unable to mend their broken relationship – the Spanish champions may offload the 26-year-old at the earliest opportunity, according to reports in Madrid.

Chelsea had been keen to bring in a defender over the summer but failed in their attempt to land Inter Milan star Maicon, who eventually joined City.

Boss Roberto Di Matteo is now even more desperate to strengthen his side’s defence after they threw away a two-goal lead against Juventus in mid-week.

And the ability of Ramos to play both in the middle and at right-back makes him an attractive target.

The current crisis is not the first time the Spain international has clashed with Mourinho.

The former Chelsea boss was also upset at Ramos’s post-match comments following a cup defeat to Barcelona in January.
